Spotlight on Connemara Organic Seaweed

Achill Island Sea Salt is an industry born from its surrounds and shares many of the same core values as the Connemara Organic Seaweed Company, which is why we love partnering with Noel and the team for their seaweed products. Have a read below to find out more about Noel and his business.

Noel Lee of The Connemara organic Seaweed Company

Noel Lee grew up in Lettermullen, a beautiful windswept Island off Ireland’s West Coast.  His family, for generations, have been harvesting kelp and seaweed off the Connemara coast so it was only natural for him in 2012 to start the Connemara Organic Seaweed Company. Seven years on, and they now have 6 product lines, 4 employees in the business and 9 seaweed harvesters working with them. Having a positive impact on the environment and their community is at the core of the business, with their mission to ‘Provide hand harvested, sustainable kelp and seaweed products for human consumption’. The company understand the importance of seaweed for marine life and acknowledge that a balance is needed when harvesting seaweed commercially. This continuous aim of conservation and sustainability in the harvesting of natural, organic seaweed is clear from their many accreditations including Certified Organic, Euro-Toques 2019 (Water Category) and Origin Green Certification.

Noel believes that supporting local Irish businesses is the key to a happy life and a way to lower your carbon footprint, which is why Connemara Organic Seaweed Company choose to work with Achill Island Sea Salt. Their Seaweed Salt is 50% Achill Island Sea Salt and 50% Seaweed Seasoning – a combination of Sweet Kelp, Dillisk and Kombu Kelp, and works great as a healthy flavour enhancer. Their other products include sea spaghetti, which is great in casseroles or curries, Dilisk, and Carrageen Moss, which when boiled in latter with lemon and honey is often used for colds and coughs.
