Vietnamese Egg Coffee with Achill Island Sea Salt

We first tried this while travelling in Vietnam, and while it's not for everyone it's worth trying it at least once! Top with a few flakes of Achill Island Sea Salt to bring it all together. 

Serves 3-4


  • 300ml of fresh espresso, we love Carrow Coffee
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1 tbsp condensed milk
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • Cocoa powder to serve
  • Achill Island Sea Salt


  1. Add the egg yolks, condensed milk, sugar, and a pinch of sea salt into a bowl and mix with an electric mixer for 5 minutes until pale and fluffy. 
  2. Pour the coffee into cups, reserving a couple of table spoons. Top the coffee with scoops of the egg mixture.
  3. Drizzle the remaining coffee over the top of the egg and scatter the cocoa powder over. 
  4. Finish with a few flakes of sea salt and drink immediately.
