Sea Salt Production Operative – Evening and Weekend Shift

 We are Achill Island Sea Salt, a sea salt company based on Achill Island. We are looking for a dedicated Sea Salt Production Operative to join our growing team on evening and weekend shifts to support the smooth running of our sea salt production process during key operational hours.

 Sea Salt Production Operative Role:

The Sea Salt Production Operative will work as part of the operations function and be responsible for supporting all stages of sea salt production, from manufacture, packaging, labelling, shipping and maintaining quality standards. This is a hands-on role in a small, fast-paced production environment where attention to detail, reliability, and pride in craftsmanship are essential.

Key Duties:

  • Operate and monitor sea salt production and drying systems during evening/weekend shifts
  • Hand harvesting sea salt crystals.
  • Support smoked salt production by preparing smoker trays and managing smoke cycles.
  • Weigh, package, and label finished salt products accurately
  • Follow operating, hygiene, food safety, and HACCP procedures at all times.
  • Carry out cleaning and sanitation tasks as per schedules and completing all necessary paperwork.
  • Assisting the team in meeting weekly production targets.
  • Ensure all product quality and traceability documentation has been completed.
  • Keep track of packaging supplies.
  • Record production data and report any issues to the Production Manager.
  • Maintain high standards of quality and consistency across all product batches.
  • Prepare orders for shipping to customers.
  • Contribute ideas for improving efficiency and sustainability in production.

Requirements

Essential:

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends on a regular schedule.
  • Dependable, punctual, and self-motivated with good attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working in a hands-on, physical role (standing, lifting, etc.).
  • Comfortable working on your own.
  • Strong sense of responsibility for cleanliness and product quality.

Desirable:

  • Experience in food or beverage production, or a manufacturing environment.
  • Basic knowledge of food hygiene, HACCP, or quality control.
  • Mechanical or technical interest/aptitude an advantage.
  • Interest in sustainability, food production, or local Irish products.
  • Full Drivers License

Working Hours

  • Part time role (10-20 hrs) with evening and weekend shifts, typically between Thursday and Sunday with potential for additional day time cover when needed.
  • Flexibility may be required during busier production periods.

This role will be based in the Achill Island Salt production facility in Bunacurry, Achill, Co. Mayo, F28HT29.
